What Do Digital Citizens Do?

If you are a Digital Citizen, here's what you do:

Comments:

  • You only say positive, friendly things wherever you post comments.

  • You choose to post a compliment, something you're grateful for, or good news at least one time a week.

  • You watch out for your friends and make sure all of the comments they receive and send are positive and not hurtful.

  • If you see a hurtful or inappropriate post, you take appropriate action--tell an adult you trust, stand up to it.

Cyberbullying:

  • You know that if you choose to do nothing in response to cyberbullying, you are actively choosing to support the person who does the bullying. Instead, tell an adult you trust, stand up to it.

  • If your friend posts something inappropriate, you talk with your friend about not hurting other people's feelings and posting only positive things.

  • If someone who is not a friend posts something hurtful --tell an adult you trust.

  • You never respond back to a cyberbullying message.

  • You block any person who sends a bullying post.

  • You keep cyberbullying messages as evidence --tell an adult you trust.

  • You support your friends if they receive a hurtful message or post.

  • You are a good listener, you encourage your friend to stand up or make a report, or you do it for them --tell an adult you trust.

  • You make sure you know and follow rules for using electronic devices at school and elsewhere.

Do you really have a private life online?

I saw a few things that the boy should not be doing. Can you figure out what they are?

Stop Motion Photography

Students are researching, learning, and presenting on a Living System. Students have many toolsat their disposal to research their topic;  Zygote Body interactive, BrainPop, FOSS Science (our science curriculum) a Symbaloo created by Karen Moulton, and books from the library to name a few.

They took their notes and created a plan on how to teach others their system. Their group created a script and the objects that they would need to tell their story. They drew their system, cut out pieces that represent blood, carbon dioxide or oxygen or whatever other items move through their system, and then magnetized the objects.

A quick mini lesson on digital cameras and tripods and they were off. They taped their body to the magnetic white board and then attached their objects. The children took turns moving the object through the system while another team mate took the pictures. After the movement sequence was complete they downloaded their images to a share folder.

Next session we will record their narrations and hopefully sequence the images with the audio.

Do You Know What Ferrofluid Is?

Well I certainly did not but thanks to one of my students I do now. We started using Edmodo and I am loving all the new information that I am learning from students, peers, and colleagues!

A ferrofluid is a liquid which becomes strongly magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field. Check out Wikipedia for more info.
